There are a lot of strong fantasy influences in my writing. I try to be funny, have good action, and have some mystery/espionage.
I will try to
gather links and other stuff for the fantasy influences in my
writing in no particular order. This page is still under construction, so don't send me hate mail.![]()
Games
Tomb Raider I wasn't too thrilled about the movie, but I do like the games. I've beaten one and three, and am currently playing Last Revelation when I have free time. Sometimes the puzzles are a bit redundant, but I still like the game. I think tomb raider three is my favorite of the one's I've played, just because it was harder. Not that I'm a game whiz, but one seemed a bit easy... and the Last Revelation, although better in graphics... still seems like a drop off. I'm trying to hurry up and finish Last Revelation though so I can play the new one that has come out... which is superior in graphics and game play.
Dungeons and Dragons I first began my trek into the world of fantasy playing this game with dice and paper and a few friends. I don't play anymore, having hung up my dice for mice (or a mouse), instead. However, I was much better at the dice version. This was an awesome eye opener. I don't play the computer versions or the role playing games much, just because I'm terrible. I don't know why.
Do any of you remember the D&D cartoon that used to run on Saturday mornings in the eighties? A group of kids was riding a rollercoaster, and got teleported into the dungeons and dragons world. I watched it every saturday morning... until it was cancelled.
Baldur's Gate I bought this game for my wife, because she whipped through Heroes of Might and Magic. It reminded me more of what I did in my younger days with dice and paper... however, I struggle at this game too. Of course, my wife is completely successful at all the role playing games, and offers encouragement like, "Don't worry honey... you'll get it." She's just lucky Lara Croft isn't in one of these games...
Heroes of Might
and Magic
Another game my wife totally dominates at... *sigh*![]()
Science Fiction Links

Star Wars I lived a deprived childhood. I saw Return of the Jedi when i was about eight. But did not see Star Wars or the Empire Strikes Back until I was in high school. I have no aspiration of attaining this type of world wide following. It would be great if it happened... but, man... when you get it right, you get it right. George Lucas got it right.
Star Trek 'Nuff said.
Quantum
Leap I
really, really liked this show... because overall Sam comes across
as an ordinary guy, who finds himself in extraordinary situations.
Scott Bakula as the captain of Enterprise is also a good move.
No offense. I like Star Trek, and really liked The Next Generation...
but Scott Bakula as the captain just "feels" better.
I know picard and the next generation crew were conditioned to
be rationale and not get too excited or too happy or too sad...
and I did like the show... but a dog, on the bridge of the Enterprise?
I like it a lot. Please don't send me hate mail if I offended
any trek fans. This is just my humble opinion.![]()
Fantasy Links
The Princess Bride My wife and I love this movie so much, that we based our wedding on it. I was the Dread Pirate Roberts... my best man came dressed as Inigo Montoya... her dad was dressed as Fezik (sp?). People who came to watch were dressed as peasants and nobleman. It was the most fun I've ever had at a wedding, which is good, since it was "my" wedding.
The Last Dragon This is not a great movie, but I love it.
The Last Starfighter This is another not great movie, but I love it. I just like how it finds a hero out in the middle of nowhere... and he saves the universe. It has that kind of classic, hokie feeling that everyone has a hero inside them... no matter where they came from.
Lord of the Rings How can anyone call themselves a fantasy author and not know J.R.R. Tolkein's work.
Forgotten Realms I read several of the forgotten realms novels while growing up in high school, and they helped in shaping my writing style.
