You say this is anime inspired. Do you have a movie or comic book deal yet for Smashing Doves?
That is my ultimate goal for this series to someday be an anime film series. But alas, no one from Hollywood, Japan or anywhere else has called me yet... and any pitches I've made have not produced anything.
I think to catch
the eye of an anime film maker, I will need to take the book series
over into a manga format.![]()
What is the biggest influence in your writing?
There are a lot of influences. Star Wars... and DragonBallZ... those both seem obvious in the book. However, remarkably, I wrote Smashing Doves before I'd even seen DragonBallZ... believe it or not, and the character powers are actually based on a failed superhero script I wrote.
More
details about my influences can be found here... Click here
The biggest difference
between Smashing Doves and the other mentioned stories is that
the story is driven by love... and the action follows because
of the pursuit of true love.![]()
These websites showcase the biggest influences in my writing...
Does the title Smashing Doves mean anything?
Smashing Doves has a duel meaning. First, it is an action novel. Poor Gilbert's peaceful little life is smashed when he discovers he must go to the other side of the universe and fight in a war. Smashing Peace = Smashing Doves.
Second, I've been
told my humor is very dry like british comedians... and this is
a romantic comedy in some points, so, Smashing Doves = a dry british-humor
romance.![]()
What kind of dog is Toad?
I
don't know. I based the character on one of my own dogs, Snickers.
Snickers is a mutt, has golden hair, and looks like an English
Spaniel. Snickers also has a six-foot vertical. She has jumped
straight up in the air and put her paw on the top of my head before,
and more than once I've found her on top of my tool shed (which
suggests her vertical jump may be higher than six-feet! Good grief...)![]()
How long have you been writing?
I've been writing for twenty-two years... and I'm now twenty seven. My first story, written and illustrated in crayon at age five, was about my dog Derek and I playing on a swing set. My plots have gotten better since age five (I think).
Someday I would like to be a full-time novelist and not have to work.

Can you give me any writing advice?
Practice and patience.
I write every day, and even when I don't have a pen and paper,
or a computer... I'm always taking mental notes of things I hear
or see. My wife is my biggest help as far as ideas and characters...
so let your friends read your stuff... listen to their feedback,
and then... after they offer their idiotic comments, think about
them for a few hours or days... and then you'll see their idiotic
comments might not be so idiotic afterall...
The library has a lot of great books about writing... and I think the magazines that helped me the most were Writer's Digest and The Writer.
And no, 'at this time,' I do not critique book length manuscripts to give writing advice. I'm still fairly new at this whole published writing gig. I would also recommend you stay away from anyone that "charges money" to critique your manuscript. A majority of the time it is just a scam.
And if you love to write and want some exposure, you are more than welcome to send me a short story... and I'll post it on my site. I like fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, adventure, romantic comedy, and suspense. If you've got something, I would be honored to feature it on my site. They can be about whatever you like, just be a pro... respect yourself, and your writing. Spell check everything, and make sure it is as good as you can make it. If I do feature one of your stories on this site, it will be because it is professional presented... meaning well edited. I have time to read... not fix mistakes. I barely have enough time to fix my own errors on this website... *sigh*
Just put in the subject line, Short Story.
